Imre Holmar

Merchant Navy SS Iris

The Iris left Cardiff Docks on July 14th 1941, loaded with coal for London. Convoy was being formed in the area around Ailsa Craig south of the Isle of Arran. She was a Swedish owned vessel. It was foggy. A newly launched Fleet Auxiliary Tanker, Blue Rafa, collided with the Iris sending her to the bottom. My Father Imre Holmar was later picked up by the tanker as it came back to look for survivors. He was taken to Greenock. Has anyone further information of this incident?
