207406 Sgt. Robert Francis Joseph Herbert Royal Marines G Company from:Colchester, Essex My father served on the Dorsetshire from 8th September 1937, until it was sunk, as a coporal in the Royal Marines. He never spoke much about his time in the Royal Marines or during WW2. He did speak briefly of the sinking and mentioned some of his time in the water and how lucky he was not to be killed. I believe he was taken back to Cape Town after being rescued and was stationed there for some time. He met my mother in Cape Town and they were married there before being stationed back at Plymouth in 1944. Many years ago we watched a documentary about the sinking of the Bismark and after the sinking there was a film scan of the ship and a number of the crew and he named a number of the crew which was amazing and interesting. He passed away in 2002 and was very proud of his time in the Royal Marines.
