LAC. George Gordon

Royal Air Force 258 Squadron

from:York

George Gordon was my father. He served in the RAF from 1940 to 1946, being stationed at various times in Sumatra, Java and India.

I know that he and other ground crew had a narrow escape when the Japanese occupied Java. My mother sent a letter of enquiry about his safety to the RAF Records Office in April 1942. The letter she received back said that no information was currently available due to the uncertainty of the situation. It also added that if she heard from him it would be very helpful if they could let them know where he and his fellow men were!
