205416 Able Seaman Leslie "Tug" Wilson Royal Navy Gunlayer HMS Nigeria from:Ramsgate Les Wilson (my late father) was in the Royal Navy from 1940 - 46 and served on convoys to Murmansk and Malta. I can remember his stories of The Gut, Trincomalee and Kandy. Before Nigeria he served on defensively equipped merchant ships. His captain on the Silverthorn was actually a German, granted asylum because he was Jewish. My father's older brother Walter (also known as Tug by shipmates but nicknamed Choy in civvy street) was a Petty Officer on HMS Trumpeter. Another brother, Frank, was accidentally shot down by trainee Spitfire pilots while towing a target drogue .
