Ldg. Sea. James Joseph Lucey

Royal Navy HMS Ardent

from:Cork, Ireland

(d. 8th June 1941)

My Uncle James Lucey, was the eldest in the family, all of his brothers also served in the allied forces. James was a career sailor having joined up before the war. He was Leading Seaman in charge of torpedoes on the HMS Ardent during the second battle of Narvik, when the ship was destroyed by the German pocket battleships Scharnhorst and Gniesenau. There was only one survivor of the 215 crew. May they rest in peace.
