John Burns. Army, 6th Battalion Durham Light Infantry. (d.14th June 1944)

John Burns is a relative of mine who was in the 6th Battalion DLI. He was killed on 14 June 1944 near Verriere, France. Does anyone have any memories or photos of him? I have the letter from his CO telling his parents of his death.

Pte. Randolph Parker. British Army, 1st Battalion Northamptonshire Regiment. (d.14th June 1944)

I am trying to find as much information as I can on my Uncle Randolph Parker. He was killed in action in Burma on 14th June 1944. My Dad tells me that they were notified he had been injured, however the information I have been given so far is that there was no known body, therefore no grave. However he is remembered at the Rangoon war memorial. Also I only have one photo of my Uncle, is there by chance anyone out there got any photos that they could share with me?

Peter Follis died in battle in Burma on 14th June 1944, age 20. He was the younger brother of triplets Philemon, Desmond and John Follis.

Lt.Col. Humphrey Reginald Woods. DSO, MC & Bar. British Army, 9th Btn. Durham Light Infantry.

Humphrey Woods was commissioned into the The King's Royal Rifle Corps and became the Commanding Officer of the 9th Durham Light Infantry. The son of Colonel Reginald Herbert Woods, O.B.E.,M.C., and Ivy Oswald Woods, of Stevenage, Hertfordshire, he was killed in action on 14th of June 1944, aged 28 and is buried in the Bayeux War Cemetery.

Derek Billett, 9th. D.L.I was killed in action on the 14th of June 1944, aged 19 and is buried in Bayeux War Cemetery. He was the son of Leonard Ernest and Olga Billett, of Brighton, Sussex.

Arthur Brown served with the 9th Durhams. He was killed in action on 14th of June 1944, aged 22 and is buried in the Bayeux War Cemetery. He was the son of Arthur and Annie Brown of Nechells, Birmingham.

William Melhuish, 9th Durham Light Infantry was killed on the 14th of June 1944, aged 29. Son of William and Lilian Melhuish of Exeter, he is buried in Bayeux War Cemetery.

Arthur Mortimer of S Coy. 9th Durham Light Infantry was killed in action on 14th June 1944. Aged 28 he was the son of George Thomas and Sophie Mortimer of Edgware, Middlesex. He is buried in the Bayeux War Cemetery . Arthur served at Dunkirk, in the Battle of El Alamain and the invasion of Sicily, before landing in Normandy. He was a trained Bren gunner and a Carrier driver.

Joseph Vernon, 9th DLI was killed in action on 14th of June 1944. Aged 23 he was the son of James and Evelyn Vernon, Houghton-Le-Spring, Co. Durham and is buried in the Bayeux War Cemetery

Unfortunately, I haven't found out much at all about my Uncle Ernest Dean. I know that he served with the 1st Battalion, South Lancashire Regiment in WW2 and that he died 14th of June 1944.

Thomas Crumley was my uncle who served and was killed in action in WW2. I have a photograph of him and a letter that was sent to my grandfather telling them of his death. I would like to learn more about him and where he is laid to rest in Italy.
