Wanted: Digital copies of Group photographs, Scrapbooks, Autograph books, photo albums, newspaper clippings, letters, postcards and ephemera relating to WW2. We would like to obtain digital copies of any documents or photographs relating to WW2 you may have at home.

If you have any unwanted photographs, documents or items from the First or Second World War, please do not destroy them. The Wartime Memories Project will give them a good home and ensure that they are used for educational purposes. 2nd Lt. Peter Ernest Dale. British Army, 1st Battalion Dorset Regiment. (d.12th July 1941)

My Uncle 2nd Lieutenant Peter Ernset Hay Dale of 1st Battalion Dorsets, born Kampala, died on his 21st Birthday during the seige in 1941 as a result of being shot up by the Luftwaffe

F/Sgt. Colin G. Goodfellow. Royal Air Force, 107 Squadon. (d.12th Jul 1941)

Flight Sergeant Colin G Goodfellow was originally from Ellesmere in Shropshire. I understand that he was sadly killed during a sortie over Ijmuiden in Holland whilst serving with 107 Squadron flying Blenheims on 12 July 1941. The family has always understood that no body was found although there may be a memorial.

On behalf of his family I am looking for any further information, which would be gratefuly recieved and help to ensure his sacrifice and those of his colleagues are never forgotten.




Sgt. H. Jackson. Royal Air Force, 50 Squadron. (d.12th July 1941)

Sergeant H Jackson (his real name was Israel Jacobovitch) served with the Royal Air Force in 50 Squadron in WW2. He died 12th of July 1941 when the Hampden AE 226 VN crashed killing the entire crew. This plane crashed near Veendam, in the vicinity of Veensloot. The crew are all buried together. H Jackson was aged 25 years and is buried in the Veendam General Cemetery, Netherlands. Son of Isaac and Miriam Jacobovitch of West Hampstead, London.

Sgt. Jack Guest. Royal Air Force, 50 Squadron. (d.12th July 1941)

Jack Guest served with the Royal Air Force in 50 Squadron in WW2. On the night of 12th of July 1941 his plane crashed near Veendam, in the vicinity of Veensloot. All of the crew of this plane were killed and they are buried on the local cemetery of Veendam. Jack was aged 24, he was a WOp/Gunner of the Hampden AE 226 VN. Son of John Arthur and Mary Guest of Gleedless, Sheffield.

Sgt. Kenneth John Lord. Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, 50 Squadron. (d.12th July 1941)

Kenneth Lord served with the Royal Air force Volunteer Reserve flying with 50 Squadron in WW2. His plane crashed near Veendam, in the vicinity of Veensloot, on the night of 12th of July 1941. All of the crew of this plane were killed and they are buried in the local cemetery of Veendam.

Sgt. Kenneth John Lord 24, belongs to the same crew as Vivian Lord, the pilot of the Hampden AE 226 VN. He was the son of William Henry and Constance E. Lord and husband of Ivy Rhoda Lord.

P/O. Edward Douglas Vivian. Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, 50 Squadron. (d.12th July 1941)

Edward Vivian served in the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve in WW2 flying with 50 Squadron. His plane crashed in the vicinity of Veensloot, near Veendam, on the night of 12th of July 1941. The target for that night was Bremen. All of the crew of this plane were killed and they are buried in the local cemetery at Veendam. Vivian came from South Africa. He was 26 years old. Son of Edward Valentine Vivian and Florence Muriel Vivian of Johannesburg, Transvaal, South Africa.

Celebrate by honouring members of your family who served in the Secomd World War both in the forces and at home. We love to hear about the soldiers, but also remember the many who served in support roles, nurses, doctors, land army, muntions workers etc.

Please use our Family History resources to find out more about your relatives. Then please send in a short article, with a photo if possible, so that they can be remembered on these pages.














The free section of the Wartime Memories Project website is run by volunteers. We have been helping people find out more about their relatives wartime experiences since 1999 by recording and preserving recollections, documents, photographs and small items.

The website is paid for out of our own pockets, library subscriptions and from donations made by visitors. The popularity of the site means that it is far exceeding available resources and we currently have a huge backlog of submissions.
