Wanted: Digital copies of Group photographs, Scrapbooks, Autograph books, photo albums, newspaper clippings, letters, postcards and ephemera relating to WW2. We would like to obtain digital copies of any documents or photographs relating to WW2 you may have at home. If you have any unwanted
photographs, documents or items from the First or Second World War, please do not destroy them.
The Wartime Memories Project will give them a good home and ensure that they are used for educational purposes. Please get in touch for the postal address, do not sent them to our PO Box as packages are not accepted.

Pte. Norman William Baxter. MID Australian Imperial Forces, 2/1 Ord. Store Co.. My father Private Norman William Baxter joined the Australian Army in Sydney on 29 May, 1940, aged 22. He served in Libya and North Africa, Greece and Crete, where he was captured and taken prisoner by the Germans on the 1st June, 1941. He was taken to Stalag V11A (Mooseburg) on 23 August, 1941. By August 1943 he was at Stalag V111A (Gorlitz)and at various working camps. He was at Stalag X1B (Duderstartd), where he was liberated by the Americans on 9th April, 1945. After R and R in England he arrived back home at Sydney on 17th June, 1945. It turned out to be my birthday six years later!
My father loved to watch Hogans Heroes. He would watch that show and laugh his head off. He obviously had some fond memories as a P.O.W. He always spoke well of the German people. I have a few photos and two surviving postcard/letters he sent from the P.O.W. camps. Lorayne Mahoney

Gnr. Leslie Williams. British Army, 110 Coast Bty. Royal Artillery. (d.1st June 1941) Gunner Williams was the son of Joseph and Florence Williams, of Edge Hill, Liverpool.
He was 20 when he died and is buried in grave 2 in the Blonduuos Cemetery in Iceland. S Flynn

L/Bdr. Robert Henry Halsall. MiD. British Army, 15th (Isle of Man) Light Anti Aircraft Regiment, 1 Royal Artillery. (d.1st June 1941) Robert Halsall, know as Harry, joined 129th Battery, Royal Artillery with his brother John Roy Halsall. They both fought in Crete, Robert was killed in action and John was taken prisoner, he was a POW in Stalag IV-F in Harmannsdorf be Cheminitz until March 1945. Robert was Mentioned in Dispatches. He is remembered on the Athens Memorial. His twin brother, William Karran Halsall joined a different unit and survived the war.

Rflmn. James Francis Kennedy. British Army, 1st Btn. (Rangers) Kings Royal Rifle Corps. (d.1st Jun 1941) My father James Kennedy was killed in the Souda Bay raid. His body was never found. I was 6 years old. My father's name is on the war memorial in Athens. I am also named James Francis Kennedy and am now 84 years of age.
