No. 27 Squadron Royal Air Force

No 27 Squadron was formed at Hounslow on the 5th of November 1915 and proceeded to France in March 1916 flying the Martinsyde G100 Elephant. Initially a fighter unit, it subsequently undertook long-rage reconnaissance and bomber missions. The squadron was disbanded on 22 January 1920.

On 1 April 1920, No. 27 was reformed by re-numbering No. 99 Squadron RAF then in India at Risalpur on the North-West Frontier. In 1928 the squadron moved to Kohat. After the Japanese invasion the Squadron was virtually destroyed in a series of attacks, andonthwe 18th February it was formally disbanded, the remaining crews being absorbed into other Squadrons.
