No. 52 Squadron, RFC, was formed at Hounslow, Middlesex in 1916, serving as an army co-operation squadron on the Western Front. Disbanded in 1919, it re-formed at Abingdon as a bomber squadron in January 1937. In November/December 1937 it was equipped with Fairey Battles and for special training purposes, Avro Ansons). For the first few months of World War 2 No 52 had an instructional role; it helped maintain the Advanced Air Striking Force in the field, and trained AASF pilots in the spraying of poison gas from Battle aircraft.

The squadron ceased to exist as such in April 1940. After existing as a maintenance unit from July 1941, it re-formed in late 1942 at Mosul, Iraq, with Blenheim IV's when it became part of the Middle East Air Force. In February 1943 the Squadron moved to Egypt and converted to Baltimores then in June No. 52 moved to Tunisia before being transferred to Italy in November. List of those who served with No. 52 Squadron RAF during The Second World War

Sergeant Ronald Joseph Hicks Willsher 52 Squadron

My Grandfather served in WW2. My Nan & Grandad were supposed to be getting married & everything was ready for the big day. My Grandfather could not get back in time so they had the party with all the guests as planned & then when he got back they were married.

He died whilst in service & had a military funeral. He was stationed all over the place. I know he was in Penang, Singapore for a while. He was at RAF Leconfield,Yorkshire when he died & is buried at the church there. I do have some photos of his funeral. However there are some missing & I was wondering if anyone knew if there were any copies of the funeral photos?

P/O Douglas Edwin William Brown 58 Sqd. (d.7th November 1941)

My brother, Pilot Officer Douglas Brown, served with 58 Sqdn at Linton on Ouse during 1941. His last mission was to Berlin night of 7.11.41 being shot down by ack ack over Kiel Canal returning from the Operation. I am hoping to visit the Memorial Room at Linton.
