1st Battalion, East Yorkshire Regiment
1st Battalion, East Yorkshire Regiment was stationed in India and remained there throughout World War Two. In 1944 they saw action in Burma. In 1945 they returned from India and were deployed to occupy Austria.

Wanted: Digital copies of Group photographs, Scrapbooks, Autograph books, photo albums, newspaper clippings, letters, postcards and ephemera relating to WW2. We would like to obtain digital copies of any documents or photographs relating to WW2 you may have at home. If you have any unwanted
photographs, documents or items from the First or Second World War, please do not destroy them.
The Wartime Memories Project will give them a good home and ensure that they are used for educational purposes. Please get in touch for the postal address, do not sent them to our PO Box as packages are not accepted.

Sgt. William Harding 1st Btn. East Yorkshire Regiment William Harding struggled with malaria when he came home, but he rarely spoke about his time in the war at all. I do not know much about my grandfather but have applied for information. I know nothing of his dates of service, all I know is that he was in India and Burma. I have his third class certificate from Jullundur in 1940 and photos of the regiment in India.

Major. Edward Charles Todd 10/48th Btn. Charles Todd initially served with the Australian Army from the onset of WW2 with the 10th/48th Battalion, prior to joining the 1st East Yorkshire Regiment in 1944-1945.
My understanding is that he sailed from Western Australia to India (together with a friend Tom Limbrick) and saw action in India and Burma. He never talked much about his service with either the Australian Army or the British Army.
He did mention he had an association of some sort with Gurkha's.
Charles received the Defence Medal, War Medal 1939/45, Australian Service Medal, Burma Star and Pacific Star medals.
I believe he was asked to remain in Burma after hostilities to collect military artefacts (for want of a better word) but declined, wishing to return home to Australia.

Sgt Leonard John Leake 1st Battalion East Yorkshire Regiment Leonard Leake served with the 1st Battalion, East Yorkshire Regiment.

L/Cpl. Ernest Bradshaw 1st Battalion East Yorkshire Regiment Ernest Bradshaw was awarded the Burma Star and the GS Medal.

Pte. James Alexander Summerson 1st Btn. East Yorkshire Regiment James Summerson served with the 1st Battalion, East Yorkshire Regiment.
