Want to know more about 2/5th Battalion, Royal West Surrey (Queens) Regiment?

There are:1318 items tagged 2/5th Battalion, Royal West Surrey (Queens) Regiment available in our Library

These include information on officers, regimental histories, letters, diary entries, personal accounts and information about actions during the Second World War.

Pte. Frederick William Roy Beeson 2/5th Btn. Queens Royal West Surrey Regiment

Frederick Beeson was my father. He fought at El Alamein, and was mentioned in the book titled El Alamein along with his sergeant, a man named Baer. I know little more than that.

Pte. Thomas Francis Murphy 2/5 Btn. The Queen's Royal Regiment (West Surrey) (d.20th May 1940)

Private Thomas Francis Murphy was my mother's older brother. He was killed only two weeks after arriving in France, shortly after his 21st birthday. He was destined to become a priest in the Roman Catholic church but decided not to and joined the Army instead.

Myself, my brother Vincent and my Mum, finally managed to visit his grave in Northern France in 2004, which is in a small church graveyard at Eurcourt-sur-Somme. His grave is with two other comrades from his unit:

  • Sarjeant Geofrey Hall and
  • Private Reginal Thorne
. All of the graves are kept very smart and tidy, which is only fitting.

Chris Lysaght

Pte. Victor Ronald Stacey 2/5th Btn. Queens Royal West Surrey Regiment

Vic Stacey served with the 2/5th Btn. Queens Royal West Surrey Regiment.

Sheila Stacey

Cpl. Cyril Norman Constable 2/5th Battalion Queen's Royal Surrey Regiment

Cyril Constable of The Queen's Royal Surrey Regiment was my wife Susan's paternal grandfather who was captured in France in 1940. He was at Stalag 383 in 1945, if not before. His POW number was 715. He said he had been on the Long March. He came home but died relatively young of cancer. In a photograph apparently taken at the camp (which we saw reproduced in a local newspaper), there were more than 20 men from his regiment there.

Ray Veasey

Pte. Edwin William Hills 2/5th Btn. Queens Royal Regiment (West Surrey)

Transit Camp ID

All we know is Dad, Bill Hills was captured during an allied raid on Sicily during WW2 and placed in Stalag 8B at Teschen, any information found would be great as he never spoke about the war.
