1st Battalion, Royal Sussex Regiment    1st Battalion, Royal Sussex Regiment was in Egypt when war broke out in September 1939, they were serving with 23rd Infantry Brigade. In October 1940 1st Sussex transferred to 7th Indian Infantry Brigade, 4th Indian Infantry Division. They saw action in the Western Desert Campaign and the Italian Campaign, including Battle of Monte Cassino.
