18th Recce Battalion, Reconnaissance Corps
18th Reconnaissance Battalion was formed by the conversion of 5th Btn. Loyal Regiment (North Lancashire) in January 1941. They were captured at the fall of Singapore in February 1942.

P Parkinson 18th Regiment Reconnaissance Corps P Parkinson served with the 18th Regiment Reconnaissance Corps British Army. I have his unissued dogtags, made in preparation for deployment to the Far East and would love to get them home to his family. I am happy to cover all costs. William George Bladen 18th Regiment Reconnaissance Corps William Bladen served with the 18th Regiment Reconnaissance Corps British Army. Tpr. Patrick Moran 18th Btn. Reconnaissance Corps (d.15th Feb 1942) Patrick Moran was the son of John and Mary J Moran of Clonmoyle, Mullingar, County Westmeath, Republic of Ireland.
He served with 5th Loyal Regiment and 18th Recce Regiment. On board Empress of Asia when it was sunk, he was rescued from the sea, taken to a field hospital at Selarang Barracks. Possibly suffering from pneumonia, he was transferred to Alexandra Hospital on 11th of February 1942. He died on 15th Feb possibly at hands of Japanese.
Remembered with honour Singapore Memorial.

Pte. Owen Peers 18th Btn. Reconnaissance Corps Owen Peers was my Grandad, 36 years old at the start of WW2 and in a reserved occupation, but he still volunteered. He was captured by the Japanese at the fall of Singapore. He used to recall with wry humour that his battalion landed just in time to surrender. He also clearly remembered loosing his false teeth when his troopship was sunk, although judging by what he had to eat over the next three and a half years, it didn't really trouble him. He returned to spend the rest of his working life in the coal mines and passed away, age 70, in 1973.

Tpr. John Newton 18th Regiment Reconnaissance Corps (d.12th June 1945) John Newton arrived in Singapore and was captured on the 15th of February 1942 during the surrender. He remained a POW until his demise on the 12th of June 1945.

Tpr. Frank Edward Smith 18th Reconnaissance Regiment Reconnaissance Corps (d.4th Feb 1942) Frank Smith served with the 5th Loyal Regiment (North Lancashire) and the 18th Reconnaissance Regiment.

Tpr. John Newton 18th Battalion Reconnaissance Corps (d.12th June 1945) John Newton served with the Loyal North Lancashire Regiment and 18th Recce Regiment. He died whilst prisoner of war on the 12th of June 1945
in Thailand. He had been captured on the 15th of February 1942.

Sgt. Thomas Prior 18th Regiment Reconnaissance Corps (d.31st May 1943) Sergeant Tom Prior served with the 5th Battalion, The Loyal Regiment and 18th Reconnaissance Regiment died 31st of May 1943 on the Burma Siam railway and is buried in Thanbyuzayat Cemetery.
He is the son of James and Sarah, husband of Margaret. Home was in Ince Wigan Lancashire

William Nicholas Roe 18th Recce Regiment Reconnaissance Corps (d.21st August 1943) Nick Roe was the eldest son of Peter and Anastasia Roe. Nick was born in Dublin Ireland, his parents moved to Liverpool in 1911 which meant that in reality he did not have to join up but, as his brothers were joining up he wanted to do the same. He married about 1940 and had one son.
He was part of the 18th (5th Loyal) Regiment, Reconnaissance Corps and was captured along with all his regiment. He died on the 21st August 1943, a P.O.W. whilst working on Burma railway He is buried in Thanbyuzayat War Cemetery.

Trpr. Jonathan Taylor 18th Regiment Reconnaissance Corps
(d.8th May 1943) Jonathan Taylor died in Burma working on the Burma-Siam Railway. He is buried in Thanbyuzayat War Cemetery. He was the son of Jonathan and Fanny Taylor and also served with the 5th Battalion, Loyal Regiment.
