Alfred Clark 2nd Northamptonshire Regiment

My father, Alfred Clark, was in the 2nd Northamptonshire Regiment and was captured at Arras in 1940. He was then sent to Stalag V111B for the rest of the war. Was anybody in the same regiment in Arras who could tell me how they were captured?

Alf Clark

Major. George Albert Goodall MBE. 2nd Battalion Northampton Regiment

I have all of my grandfather's war paperwork including his Military MBE Oakleaf etc. His name was George Goodall, he was wounded in France by shelling as part of the BEF but on recovery went back to war. He put down a full chronology which I also have. I would love to learn more about him. I was very close to granddad as a kid but he never spoke of the war.

Neil Goodall

Cpl. Richard John Seaton 2nd Btn. Northamptonshire Regiment

Cpl Seaton (Centre) in India

Richard Seaton served in both the 2nd Battalion, Northamptonshire Regiment and then later 2nd Battalion, Devonshire Regiment in WW2. He served from 1940 to 1946.

Colin Seaton

Sgt. Ralph Victor Shellard 2nd Btn. Northamptonshire Regiment

Vick Shellard was my grandfather. He told me he was at Dunkirk and India then later became Sergeant Major or Drill Sergeant at Wootton Barracks.

Peter Lines

Robert Arnold Embrey 2nd Btn. Northamptonshire Regiment (d.1st May 1944)

Arnold Embrey is buried in Beach Head War Cemetery, Anzio.

Pte. Leonard William Robins 2nd Battalion Northamptonshire Regiment (d.11th September 1942)

Len Robins was my uncle (my mother's brother). He died in India of malaria and I didn't know too much about him except my mother would get very emotional as he was the youngest of five children. His father, William, served in the Boer War in SA and also WW1.

Sadly, there are no living members of the family to recall any information about Len but on going through some papers recently a letter was found from Capt. RCR Roche of 2nd Battalion Northamptonshire Regiment dated 5th of November 1942 and sent by Air Mail on 30th of January 1943, informing Len's wife of his death. The letter said that Len was buried in Ranchi War Cemetery in India, Plot 4, Row J, Grave No.7.

Pat Groombridge

Sgt. James Campbell 2nd Battalion Northamptonshire Regiment

My father James Campbell joined the Northamptonshire Regiment in April 1933 aged 20. He was with BEF in France and Belgium and was one of the lucky few of his Battalion who made it back to the UK via Dunkirk.

In 1942 he transferred to the Royal Warwickshire Regiment and with them was posted to India and Burma. He left the army in 1945 but never spoke of his experiences. He passed away in 1989.

Mick Campbell

W/Sgt. John Oliver Sheen 2nd Btn. Northamptonshire Regiment

John Sheen was myhmusband. We married in September 1976 when he was 60 and I was 28, we had a blissful but short marriage. My daughter remembers Jack's elder sister saying he was one of the last men picked up at Dunkirk, and later, one of the first to land on D Day. He never talked much about his war service when he was alive, but now the grandson he never met would love to know more about his exploits, especially having seen the latest Dunkirk film. Can anyone help?

Sue Sheen

Pte. Eric Roy Humphries 2nd Btn. Northamptonshire Regiment

My half brother, Eric Humphries was at Dunkirk. He was reported missing but turned up at my parents front door. He'd been picked up by a different Battalion at Dunkirk. He went on to be a Sergeant within the Northampton Police force.

Marion R Stewart

Pte. George Thomas Clarke 2nd Btn. Northamptonshire Regiment (d.10th May 1940)

George Clarke would have been my uncle had he lived. My mother told me that he was only 19 years old when he was killed. I feel such great sadness that I never met him.

CWGC has his date of death between 10th May 1940 and 24th September 1940.
