Dan

Ernest John Lythaby 5th Btn. Grenadier Guards

Ernest Lythaby in back row left

Initially, Ernest Lythaby was with the 1st Battalion, Grenadier Guards, which were called up in 1939. The 1st Battalion was swapped to 5th Battalion in 1942. He saw service in North Africa and Italy. He was demobilised in 1945.

Arthur William Lythaby

Henry Edward Davis 1st Btn. Grenadier Guards (d.11th August 1944)

Henry Davis was aged 20 when he was killed. He lies in St. Charles De Percy War Cemetery in France.

Pte. Cyril Walker 1st Battalion Grenadier Guards

Cyril Walker was my late wife's older brother and our grand daughter is currently doing a school project on WW1/WW2.

We have some of Cyril's service medals and know that after the war he served in Palestine and later in Tripoli where he died. He was a Lance Sergeant and a member of his regiment's speedway team and died whilst undergoing an operation to remove his appendix on 15th November 1950.

Although two of his nephews are still around their detailed memories of Cyril are very sketchy as they were quite young at the time of his death. It would be nice to learn more of his wartime service and involvement.

Allan Barham

L/Cpl. Albert John Unsted 1st Btn. Grenadier Guards

L/Cpl Unsted served in Germany in the last moments of WW2 and was at the relief of the concentration camp at Sandbostel.
