L/Cpl. Richard Henry Rose 2nd Btn. Green Howards (d.18th June 1943)

Richard Henry Rose was my great uncle. He is listed as missing. Family tales say he fell into a river and was never seen alive again, therefore he has no known grave.

QMS. Harry Cawthorne "Smiler" Birdsall 2nd Battalion Green Howards

My grandfather Harry Birdsall was posted to Burma in October 1944 and sailed two days after his wedding in early November. He fought around the Sandoway and Ramree Island areas before landing in India after the Japanese surrendered. He stayed in India until the end of 1946 helping with the Independence riots. Before he left, he stayed at Mountbatten's home for the week as a thank you for his service.
