USAAF Podington The airfield at Podington, 6 miles SE of Wellingborough in Bedfordshire, was originally built as an RAF Bomber Command Station 1941 and was transferred to the control of the 8th USAAF in 1942. Squadrons stationed here during the Second World War. 60 TCG, 28th Troop Carrier Squadron. July to August 1942 8th BC, CCRU, Combat Crew Replacement Unit. August 1942 to May 1943 301st Bomb Group (satellite to Chelveston.) Aug to Sep 1942 15th Bomb Squadron. Sept to Nov 1942 100th Bombardment Group (H) Mat to June 1943 325th, 326th, 327th and 407th Bombardment Squadrons of the 92nd Bombardment Group. Sep 1943 to Jul 1945. After the war the airfield was used by the Air Ministry for sandbag storage until the site was sold 1961.
