Wanted: Digital copies of Group photographs, Scrapbooks, Autograph books, photo albums, newspaper clippings, letters, postcards and ephemera relating to WW2. We would like to obtain digital copies of any documents or photographs relating to WW2 you may have at home. If you have any unwanted
photographs, documents or items from the First or Second World War, please do not destroy them.
The Wartime Memories Project will give them a good home and ensure that they are used for educational purposes. Please get in touch for the postal address, do not sent them to our PO Box as packages are not accepted.

Sgt. James Lovegrove No 54 Maintenance Unit Jim Lovegrove was my grandfather. During WW2 he held the rank of Sergeant stationed in/around RAF Newmarket (possibly Woodbridge) in Suffolk with No. 54 Maintenance Unit. I have a photograph of him and what I believe to be the rest of his unit in front of a Lancaster.
Outside of that I have little information and I am very keen to find out more. If anyone can shed any light on No. 54 Maintenance Unit and/or any of the people associated with it during the War it would be greatly appreciated.

Sgt. Charles William Appleby 76 Squadron (d.13th August 1944) Sgt Appleby was a rear gunner serving on 76 Squadron. He was killed in action by shrapnel from a flak burst during the bombing run up to the target over Russelsheim on 13th of August 1944.
The squadron was one of those tasked with attacking the Opel vehicle works in Russelsheim. His aircraft, a Halifax B MkIII MP-B (LW637) survived the flak burst although the pilot, mid upper gunner, wireless operator and possible the navigator were seriously wounded and completed their attack on the target and returned to the UK, crash landing at the Woodbridge Emergency Aerodrome.
Sgt Charles Appleby was buried was buried in a Commonwealth War Grave in his home town of Burton-on-Trent.
