221037 Sgt. William Robert Milton British Army 13th Btn. Royal Fusiliers from:Tottenham, London (d.24th Oct 1918) 4633 Sgt. William Robert Milton served with the 13th Battalion, Royal Fusiliers during WW1 and was killed in action on the 24th October 1918, aged 31. He is commemorated on the Vis-en-Artois Memorial in France, son of Robert and Mary Milton, of 34 Devon Rd., Tottenham, London. S Flynn Add to this record.    Additional Information: William Robert Milton was my Great Grandfather. He was born in Tottenham. His wife was Mary Milton nee Delaney. They had 4 children. William Jnr Edna George Nathaniel (died in infancy) and my Grandmother Gladys Louisa Milton. Pre war he was a Railway Stableman for the Great Eastern Railway and is commemorated on the Liverpool Street Station memorial. He was killed during an attack on Ghissignes in northern France when he was machine gunned down in an orchard the Germans then shelled the area for the next few days and it appears his body was hit by a shell as it was never recovered. Half of his platoon fatalities were moved to Beaurain as they had been mutilated by the German. He was wounded on 16th of July 1916 during an attack on Pozieres. His wife married Harry Hughes after the war, who was Williams friend and had promised to take over the family if anything happened to William.
