Pte. Edward Cassidy

Edward Cassidy was my great uncle and I have only heard of him in the past few years from a cousin of my father. She is Edwards niece but was born long after World War1.My father nor my aunts ever mentioned their uncle who died before they too were born. But, my cousin showed me a photograph of Edward in his uniform that she just happened to come across . Imagine my surprise to find my son's face staring out at me! There are no other members of the family who look like this, and to find this connection has drawn me to him greatly .
Edward was 38 years old, married with three children. Iknow nothing of their life stories. He was the oldest of 13 children born to Thomas and Ann Cassidynd. His name is on the Thiepval Monument in France but he has no known grave .He was killed at the Battle of the Somme on 16th July 1916 . I wish to keep his memory alive,if only for myself but feel that this is also to hope he did not die in vain and will not be forgotte
