Although many of the terms coined during the Great War are in regular use today, some now have different meanings. This glossary aims to help you understand some of the more common terms and abbreviations used in letters, diaries and documents and includes words in regular s=use as well as militay terms.


Glossary



  • Billet - Accomodation, sleeping quarters.
  • Bomb - Hand grenade.
  • Bombing - Throwing hand grenades.
  • C.B. - Confined to Barracks.
  • Enteric fever - Typhoid.
  • Mitt - Hand.
  • Nappoo - Finished, Dead.
  • F.A.P. - First Aid Post.
  • R.A.P. - Regimental Aid Post.
  • Wind up - Nervous, expecting an attack
