23rd January 1917

On this day:

  • More guns for 124th Heavy Battery   On 23rd Jan 1917, 124th Heavy Battery, RGA was increased to six guns with one section joining from 203rd Heavy Battery.

  • Bomardment of Enemy Front Line   236th London Brigade Royal Field Artillery undertake Bombardment of enemy front line system and communication trenches by the division in conjunction with the Heavy Artillery was carried out. The enemy’s retaliation to this Bombardment was slight. The effect of the Bombardment was good as his front and communication trenches were considerably knocked about.

    Casualties: Lt Hellier, V47 Ttrench Mortar Battery, wounded and one other rank, Y47 Trench Mortar Battery, wounded.
