The Wartime Memories Project - The Great War - Day by Day

5th February 1916

On this day:

  • Night Firing   6th County of London Brigade RFA report from Les Brebis, Fosse 7 and Maroc. A very quiet day with excellent light. Night firing on new saps and trenches undoubtedly hindered the work at these places. Very little additional work has been done. A doubtful aeroplane was reported with only a ring under one wing. Fosse 7 was heavily shelled from Vendin. The 7th & 17th London Batteries fired on the new trenches during the night. At 0500 there was a concentration of fire from all IV Corps guns, with each gun firing 1 round on its right line.

  • 3rd Canadian Tunnelling Coy boosted by extra men

Lieut. Bullock and Lieut. Dickson left Bailleul at 5.25 a.m. for London on 8 days leave.

105 NCO's and men reported as Attached Infantry from 1st Canadian Division. 35 from each Brigade.
