119084 L/Corporal Cecil Stewart British Army 12th Rifle Brigade from:Stepney, East London (d.1st May 1917) My Grandfather Cecil Stewart is buried at Bray Sur Somme having died from shrapnel wounds at the 48th Casualty Clearing Station sited in the village church on the 1st May 1917. He was 26 and my mother(his only child) was 3 months old. Enlisted May 1915 as one of Kitchener's volunteers, he was a Painter and Decorator in civilian life and did what he believed was his duty to his country. In reality they had no choice but to enlist in a war that they did not understand.
