1012 Private Alexander Gray British Army 18th Battalion Highland Light Infantry from:Cambuslang, Scotland (d.31st July 1917) I am trying to find out about my uncle, Alexander Gray of Cambuslang, enlisted in the 18th Battalion Highland Light Infantry and died in Belgium in 1917. I think he was also in the Queen's Own Royal Glasgow Yeomanry before the war, and would like to find out more about the history of both units. Are there any photographs of individual infantry companies taken before going into action or during initial deployment? Additional Information: Pte. 350644 Alexander Gray was killed during the final weeks of the war when his Battalion, the 18th [Glasgow Yeomanry] Highland Light Infantry, was involved in what became known as the Final Advance in Flanders which brought an end to WW1. He was 22 years of age when he died on 9th October 1918. The son of Alexander and Isabella Gray, 66 Greenlees Road, Cambuslang, he is buried in Dadizeele New British Cemetery, West Flanders.
